What We Offer Chapters
Educational Resources
Our educational resources are the core of what we provide chapters. Educational resources take the form of slide presentations, created entirely by YAA members, about various social justice issues. We also have corresponding resources, such as educational media lists, for each topic. The standard format most chapters follow is to choose a different topic to educate their chapter members about every month.
Here are some examples of our slide presentations.
Connection Hub
The Connection Hub is a unique resource offered to all chapters and team members. We collect the contact information of some extremely experienced students and adults, in the fields of advocacy, activism, civics, and more. Their contact info is available to all YAA members who would like advice or input on any of their projects! The Executive Team is also a valuable resource for these queries.
FAQ's
How much freedom do chapters get?
As much as you want! As long as your chapter does work related to activism or political advocacy, you're totally good! In fact, some chapters may take the form of affinity clubs at their schools, or work solely to campaign for a certain local political figure. Your chapter is whatever you want, and our involvement is whatever you choose. While you may want lots of advice and help, you might also just want to use our given resources, and either option is totally ok!
Can I make a chapter out of an existing club/project?
ABSOLUTELY! We think the easiest way to become a chapter is to just sign up an existing club or project. You don't have to start something new to be one of our chapters.
What are chapter requirements?
There are just a few things we ask of chapters.
1. At the end of every month, all chapters send us a recap email of what you did that month. Include pictures, posts, etc.
2. We'll occasionally have chapter-exec team meetings. We ask you to try and make these meetings.
Do you have to be in high school to start a chapter?
No! We accept anyone who's a teenager, whether you're in middle school, high school, or college. However, we hope younger chapter leads recognize the maturity of the topics discussed.
Does the chapter have to be started through my school?
No! There is always the option to start a community chapter, which is just a collective of youth not accossiated with a school. We just recommend starting your chapter through your school because it tends to be much easier to manage.
Do I have to call my chapter a YAA chapter, rather than some other, more specific name?
No. You do not have to explicitly advertise that you're associated with YAA through your name. All we ask is that you notify your members where your resources come from, and that you @ us in your social media bios. Additionally, you'll be registered as a YAA chapter and we'll potentially like to post some of your achievements.
Can I register as an individual rather than a chapter? I'm an activist but I don't have a team.
Possibly. We aim to include as many activists as possible, and activism tends to function better when you're working with a team. If you'd like to ask about a special circumstance, contact us at youthactivismalliance@gmail.com
What happens after I register a chapter?
You'll get an email asking you to schedule a call with an Executive Team member. You must complete this short (15-30 min call) in order to get access to our resources. We just want to meet you and ask about your plans for your chapter! Consider it as an initial consultation. After that, you're free to anything in our database!
